Flute Lesson Info

I teach flutists of all ages and levels in south Lincoln, NE, and I approach lessons as a partnership. Together, we shape a lesson rhythm that fits the student, their goals, and their life. Yes, we work on tone, technique, and musicianship — but flute study also builds skills that reach far beyond the instrument: confidence, communication, public speaking, time management, goal setting, resilience, and presence. My students are current and future contributors to their communities, and private instruction becomes one way they grow into those roles.

In addition to weekly lessons, students have the opportunity to perform in an annual studio recital and connect with area ensembles and community music experiences. Whenever possible, I show up for my students — cheering them on at festivals and performances.

I offer a complimentary introductory lesson for every prospective student so we can get to know one another and make sure our expectations and learning styles are a good fit. To explore flute lessons, simply fill out the contact form on this page — I’d love to connect with you.

I’m taking lessons, now what? Overview of Expectations.

Taking private lessons is the best way to improve your skills as a musician. Being in a school ensemble is a great starting point, but most director’s aren’t able to give the individual attention needed in the classroom.

As a general rule here is what to expect and be prepared for:

  • You are not required to own an instrument, however, eventually it is the best route to purchase one.  In the meantime you can rent or borrow from your school or myself (if available).  I can discuss these options with you and will be happy to give you a personal recommendation for instruments.  DO NOT PURCHASE AN INSTRUMENT WITHOUT THE GUIDANCE OF A TEACHER.
  • Bring a notebook – I will give you something to work on each week, and I will also take notes during your lessons so we remember what’s been assigned.
  • Practice!  Depending on your level of study and goals, the amount of time you must spend each day practicing will vary.  This is an ongoing discussion!  Students that are not practicing or show a general lack of interest in committing may be asked to leave the studio.
  • Music theory (in a nutshell the “math” of music) will be incorporated into most student’s lessons.
  • Performing is not required but is STRONGLY encouraged.  The more you do it, the easier it gets!  When opportunities arise to perform I will help you prepare for them and I will help you seek performance opportunities.
  • You are expected to purchase the music used in lessons. Depending on your goals and commitment level we will work together to decide what is best for you. If there are financial concerns we can discuss this along the way.  Please remember it is illegal to photocopy music without the publisher’s permission.
  • Am I too young?  Too old?  Probably not!  I will let you know if there are concerns.
  • Parents are welcome to observe lessons. However, know that some students work better without being observed, so occasionally I may request parents to sit out.

Regardless of how much or how little you are able to give, and whether you’re just getting started as a youngster, coming back to music later in life, or are just picking it up on a whim, I’ll be happy to have you as a part of my music community.

Studio rates & policies

Studio Policies & Rates

Lesson Rates
Weekly students receive the standard lesson rates of $35 for 30-minute lessons and $65 for 60-minute lessons. Weekly lesson times reserve a dedicated place in the studio schedule and reflect consistent attendance.

For families who need more flexibility, single lessons and biweekly lessons may be scheduled as availability allows at the flexible scheduling rate of $40 for 30-minute lessons and $75 for 60-minute lessons. Because a regular lesson time is not held, these lessons are booked on a week-to-week basis.

If fewer than three lessons are attended within a calendar month, all lessons attended that month will be billed at the flexible scheduling rate rather than the weekly rate. Any adjusted balance will be reflected in the following invoice.

Annual $50 studio fee (2026 rate) paid in August. Students starting mid-year will be charged $25.

Lindsay is a single mom to two furry children (Dexter & Maeby, dogs) and two human children, Aurora and Ainsley. If you have any pet allergies or fears, please let me know!

Lessons take place in person in my home studio in south Lincoln, though occasional virtual lessons are possible.

Lesson cancellations by me will be communicated with as much notice as possible. Lessons canceled by the student within 24 hours will not be made up (except in extreme situations), and payment is still required.

Weather-related cancellations generally follow the decision of Lincoln Public Schools. It may not be possible to reschedule all weather-related cancellations, though virtual lessons are an option in many cases.

Lessons are scheduled based on the best available day and time for both the student and teacher. Students with ongoing irregular attendance may be transitioned to flexible scheduling based on availability.
